The reader cannot be detected by my application, however the driver installation was successful...


Log on with a local administrator account.

  1. Check if your reader is declared in the device manager. To run the device manager: Windows key + Pause or Start >> Run >> enter "device manager" then ok.
    Look for the "Smart card readers" section, check if your reader is listed here. If it is absent or if there is an exclamation mark on it, follow the troubleshooter available at:http://support.gemalto.com/index.php?id=readers_tokens_troubleshooterIf there is no error, proceed to next step.
  2. Start >> Run regedit.
    Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Cryptography\Calais\
    Here you should find a reference to your reader. The name will be the same as in the device manager, followed by a number 0,1, ...

If there is no key for your reader under the "Readers" key, applications will not be aware of an available reader. We are going to add the reference to the device like this: Create a new text file with Notepad and copy/paste the text below.

Replace [YOUR READER NAME] by the actual name of your reader, as it is given in the device manager.
Save the file under c:\temp, call it AddReader.reg.
Open the file explorer and go to c:\temp.
Double click AddReader.reg to create the reference to your reader in the registry.
Go back to Regedit and check if your reader has been added under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Cryptography\Calais\Readers
If there is still no key for your reader, you probably have some permission restrictions on the "Readers" key. Please report this issue to your local IT department for advices.
