How to perform a clean reinstallation of Classic Client ?

All Classic Client versions on Microsoft Operating Systems

In some cases when you get incomprehensive behavior of Classic Client you may just have a wrongly installed it. For example you did not have the administrator rights while performing the installation or you have installed two different versions of Classic Client at the same time on the same computer.

In this case a clean reinstallation of Classic Client will solve your issue:

1. Uninstall Classic Client

Go to 'Control Panel', 'Add or Remove Programs' and uninstall all our Gemalto Software (Classic Client, Gemsafe Libraries...)

2. Clean the registry

Click 'start', 'Run' and type 'regedit'
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Gemplus\]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Gemalto\]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Gemplus\]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Gemalto\]

3. Delete the installation folders

  • Delete the folder 'C:\Program Files\Gemplus\'
  • Delete the folder 'C:\Program Files\Gemalto\'

4. Restart the machine

5. Reinstall Classic Client

Make sure that you have admin rights for the installation

Disable the UAC if using Windows Vista or 7.

Perform this procedure if Classic Client is the only Gemalto product you use.
