What can I do if I can't see the certificate in the Internet Explorer or Outlook?

If you can't see the certificates in the certificate store in the Internet Explorer after you insert the card into the reader, this means that the certificates on the card have not been propagated into the "personal store" properly. In this case, please check the followings.

  • On XP, make sure that the Microsoft certificate propagation setting by checking the following registry key. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\ScCertProp]

The value for the 'Enabled' key should be 0x00000001.

  • On Windows VISTA and later version, the certificate propagation has been integrated as a service. Please make sure that this service is set to "automatic" and started.

If you have other smart card middleware installed, this can override the Microsoft certificate propagation setting. If this is the case, please refer to the vendor manual to configure the option for the certificate propagation correctly.
