Applies to

IDPrime .Net card on Windows XP, Vista, 7, Server 2003,  2008 and 2008 R2

The User PIN in a IDPrime .NET card can be changed in different ways depending on the operating system used.

For Windows XP or Server 2003, a Smart Card PIN Tool is provided.

This PIN tool is part of a the Smart Card Base CSP package KB909520 available via Windows Update. You probably already have installed this package on the machine since you are using a IDPrime .NET card.

  1. From the Start menu, choose Run and type PINTool.
  2. Insert a IDPrime .Net card in the reader as prompted, and click OK. The change PIN interface appears
  3. Enter the old PIN (the default PIN value is 0000), the new PIN and confirm the new PIN.
  4. Click on Change Pin

For Windows Vista and later, the so-called secure desktop can be used.

  1. Press the Ctrl+Alt+Del key combination.
  2. Select Change a Password.
  3. Insert the smart card in the smart card reader attached to the machine and click Other Credentials.
  4. In the credential provider, select the smart card user tile. This displays the PIN change window.
  5. Enter the old PIN (the default PIN value is 0000), the new PIN and confirm the new PIN then click the arrow.
