Note about Smartcard drivers for Windows 7

On Windows 7, you need an additional minidriver for the smart card to be recognized by the system (independently of the reader).
Please go to Microsoft's update page to find the minidriver. The link below will search for available Gemalto minidrivers, but you can search for others too:
http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/search.aspx?q=gemalto+minidriver

To install the minidriver:
- download and extract the driver as instructed at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/323166
- in the Windows Device Manager (you might have to insert the card), where you have "Other Device" and "Smart Card" listed with a yellow (!) error symbol, go to "Properties" > "Drivers" and "Install Driver" (or "Update Driver"). When prompted, locate the .INF file that you previously extracted.

If you cannot find a minidriver for your smartcard, then it is probably an older one and it is not natively supported on Windows 7. In that case, you need a middleware, such as Gemalto's Classic Client, which supports older smart cards on Windows 7.
